We tend to be with our attention in our minds, paying attention to our thoughts that often drag us along with them.
It is estimated that more than 95% of thoughts are usually related to the past or the future: desires, fears, rejections, «I should do», «I shouldn’t have done…» A bore, they burden us with guilt, and are of little or no use with reference to the reality of the present moment.
This is how we spend our days, with living in our heads, thinking about the past or the future. With our attention we are everywhere, except in the present moment! Do you know what we are talking about?
In fact, this is very curious and striking taking into account that life really only happens NOW! At this very moment. There are no other moments.
The past … has already “passed”, it does no longer exist – it only «exists» in our heads if we bring it in the form of memories.
And the future? By definition, it does not exist yet, it is yet to be discovered. But also, in our heads we travel to the future whenever we want, we “pre-occupy ourselves”, we live with anxiety…
Do you know who is in the present? Our body, our breathing, our senses…. They are always with us and they are always in the NOW.
All you need to do is to “take” your attention out of your head and direct it to your body.
