Welcome, Master Autumn!

Autumn has a negative reputation. Summer ends, temperatures drop, there is more wind and more rain… Flowers wither… Leaves fall from the trees… Days are shorter… The hours of darkness increase… To many people, fall seems sad, a time of decline, of ending.  In fact, in autumn the cases of colds, melancholy and depression increase…

Another way of perceiving autumn is as an invitation to contemplation, to introspection, to be calm with oneself… And not only that! Autumn can be a great example for our lives!

Stop for a moment and look at how the trees drop their leaves! An exercise in detachment, in letting go, in accepting that their departure…

Does it seem like a difficult task for them? – No.

Do they seem to suffer, the tree or the leaves? – No.

The leaves just fall; Furthermore, with a little wind, they will start to dance… We see the absence of complaint, the absence of effort, the absence of heaviness, the absence of drama; everything happens naturally, gently, gracefully…

The tree knows who/what it is, it knows that it is still a tree even if it loses its leaves.

The leaves could be our preconceived ideas, beliefs, concepts, mental maps, patterns, prejudices, emotions, memories… everything that I think is important and that I identify with!

Are we willing to let them go like trees do with their leaves?

It is much more difficult for us because we are very attached. Without “our leaves”, who or what would we be? A big question, a challenge, a fear, an abyss, a void such… that the vast majority of us prefer to keep their leaves, at least the “most important” ones 😉

If we really want to advance on the spiritual path and discover – not mentally but experientially – what we really are, we need to be like a tree in autumn, ready to let go.

Only by letting go these mental contents, with an attitude of total openness and surrender to Life, breaking through the mental “smokescreen” will we come to know and experience our essence.

What a great teacher autumn is for our spiritual path!
